The Versatile Instrument for Instruction and Training The LB 5320 UniRad is a single channel radiation measuring system. Microprocessor based, it incorporates a high voltage supply, signal amplifier and window discriminator. All common detector types can be connected.
The instrument is primarily designed for instruction and training. In connection with appropriate scintillation probes, however, it may also be used as a full-fledged gamma sample measuring system. The design of the front panel clearly distinguishes both fields of application.
For use as a training instrument, the LB 5320 UniRad includes all essential features required for basic training in radiation physics, detector properties and radiation measuring techniques. A typical feature of this type of instrument is that high voltage, discriminator thresholds, measurement times, time constants etc. can be set manually and changed continuously; however, this is not done by means of analog elements such as potentiometers, but digitally. The pulse shape before and after the discriminator can be displayed using an oscilloscope via the test sockets on the front panel. The measurement itself can be carried out in the "Ratemeter" or "Scaler Timer" mode.
Moreover, the LB5320 UniRad is excellently suited for the instruction of beginners and training of advanced staff working in nuclear-medical laboratories. Employees can learn, for example, how to perform an activity calibration in a preselected energy range and to convert the count rates into activity concentrations, and how to enter calibration factors and select units such as Bq/l.
The Easy-to-Operate Instrument for the RadioNuclide Laboratory In addition to the training function, the LB5320 UniRad can be employed as a manual gamma measuring system with the well-type detector LB6628-U or the ring-shaped beaker scintillation probe LB 742. Besides the low price, the major benefit is the simple operation of the instrument. The user need not scroll through the software menus to get to the desired function - all parameters can be selected and set directly via lettered function keys. Additional entries and measurement types are called via three softkeys.
Detectors which can be connected to the LB 5320 UniRad Direct Connection without preamplifier via analog input: GM counter tubes (voltage sensitive), NaI scintillation probes (charge sensitive), Si semi-conductor detectors (with integrated preamplifier)
Via external preamplifier: Si semi-conductor detectors, proportional counter tubes
Probes with digital output: GM counter tubes, proportional counter tubes
Automatic functions of the LB 5320 UniRad The following automatic functions can be initiated simply by pressing a button:
Background Measures and stores the curent background count rate for later correction of activity measurements.
Energy Calibration With NaI scintillation detectors, an energy adjustment is performed using an exteranl 137Cs Source.
Spectrum Recording A small discriminator window is moved through a preselected energy range and the spectrum is output digitally and graphically on the printer.
Plateau Recording The high voltage is moved through a preselected range and the detector plateau is output digitally and graphically on the printer.
Recorder Output In the continuous measurement mode (Ratemeter) the unit of measure, eg. doserate, is output to a programmable analog output (0-20mA) for control of a recorder or display device.
