The junior is a small portable luminometer which furthers the fine tradition of Bethold luminometers. junior is especially designed for versatility:
The junior is designed for manual injection and can therefore be used for the measurement of all common glow type bioluminescent and chemiluminescent applications in research, diagnostics and food technology. The performance of the instrument is excellent. Even as a simple instrument without data evaluation it can be used for a variety of applications.
Reporter Gene Assays Nowadays there is a broad range of reporter gene assays which show a constant light output over minutes or even hours. Measurement of firefly luciferase, ß-galactosidase or ß-glucurinodase are common sensitive luminescent methods to study gene regulation. Even the kits using a second luminescent reaction for the standardisation of transfection efficiency, dual reporter gene assay, can be measured with the junior.
ATP Monitoring Due to the increasing availability of glow type ATP kits, based on the light generating firefly reaction, junior is the ideal instrument for the whole range of ATP-based assays. Using the CLS II ATP kit of Boehringer Mannheim (FRG), down to 1 fmole of ATP can be measured. Since all living cells contain ATP, in hygiene monitoring ATP bioluminescence is used to check with a fast and simple test whether surfaces are contaminated, eg with bacteria. Measured data are stored with the number of the test and its destination. The results can be transferred to the PC and implemented into the HACCP system of the company.
NAD(P)H Assays NAD(P)H can be easily measured using the light generating reaction of bacterial luciferases.
Enzyme Measurements Since ATP and NAD(P)H are among the most important substances in the metabolic system, a lot of different applications are correlated to the measurement of these compounds. By use of linked reaction systems a large variety of enzymatic activities can be measured.
Luminescent Immunoassays (LIA, ILMA, Luminescence ELISA) The ability to measure glow type luminescenct immunoassays also makes the junior suitable for in vitro diagnostic applications. Data evaluation with standard programs like Excel® is easy through using the Winterm data capture program.
