Laboratorium Prof. Dr Berthold was founded in 1949, in Wildbad, Germany. Since then the company has acquired an excellent reputation worldwide for its innovative and reliable products. In 1989, Bethold became part of EG&G, an international high-technology corporation, with headquarters in Wellesley, Massachusetts. EG&G has since purchased PerkinElmer and renamed EG&G Berthold as PerkinElmer Berthold. Berthold commands a worldwide sales and service network comprising subsidiaries, other PerkinElmer companies and distributors. Berthold Australia Pty Ltd is responsible for the Life Sciences, Industrial Measurement and Radiation Protection divisions in Australia.

The Life Sciences Division manufactures bioscience research instrumentation, including luminometers, using radionuclide and luminescence methods.

The Radiation Protection Division manufactures systems for personal dose rate and contamination monitoring, air contamination monitoring, radiation monitoring networks for cyclotrons and nuclear installations, radioactive scrap monitoring and portable gamma-ray spectrometers.

The Industrial Measurement Division manufactures instruments for level, density, and massflow measurement, as well as a range of material analysis instruments.

Berthold Australia also distribute the Fujifilm Scientific Systems Group instruments for molecular imaging in Australia, New Zealand and throughout South East Asia.
